IMO the black lines on the back binding look great now, will look better if you do what Dennis suggested, and will stand out more after she is lacquered and polished. That design is a true original!

Or, are you planning to take on North Korea single-handed. Surely nothing where you live, other than people, take a clip that big to kill?

Despite having grown up in NYC, I, and the rest of the world don't understand Americans and guns.......

Thanks mad raxz. Hoping it'll pop a little more once the lacquer is on. I added that bit Dennis suggested and it made a huge difference.

Tony, the gun is for goat population control. ;)

Nick, the clip may seem large but it's not as big as you probably think. I know it does t look like it but that's a 12 gauge shotgun so the ammo is a lot larger than a rifle. That clip only holds 10 rounds so it's not as bad as it may appear. I like to shoot clay pigeons which takes a lot of ammo and I hate reloading so the larger the clip the better, for me anyways.

Zeke's gun isn't really for clay pigeons. It's to prevent one of us from trying to steal that beautiful guitar. Nice work, I love the design.

That's weird - I was just thinking, "why go with such a small magazine?" :D Less time reloading magazines is a big deal if you shoot a lot!

Back to the matter at hand, I'm enjoying watching your build. I was debating participating in the competition but decided against it - there is going to be some tough decisions to be made come judging time!

Good luck with the build! And if you happen to throw in a gun pic now and again, it's fine by me! ;)

I bet that 12 gauge is awesome for the carnival game where you need to shoot out the star from the paper target!

Aaron, thanks for the compliments. You should go on and jump in the fray, you still have quite a while to build. I dont plan on winning but its just fun being a part of the group. As far as that magazine is concerned, bigger are available. I know they make a 30 round drum for it but a drum would be very uncomfortable now that Ive put that bullpup stock and moved the trigger in front of the magazine. A drum gets in the way. I thought ten rounds was a good even number, Itll come in handy when the zombie apocalypse starts laughing6-hehe

Tony, If i could use that in the carnival game Id be able to win every time. Id get you a big stuffed goat! Or a llama since you are into those now. I have a feeling the carnies would get a little upset if I brought that out though.

Sweet, I have a couple I'm trying to get closed this weekend. Your gonna have to cruise up to Knoxville for one of our local luthier meetings when you get finished.

I've meant to come to one but haven't managed yet. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to one soon. Maybe a weekend at the lake and then hop up there on Sunday since the lake is halfway to Knoxville.

Nice progress - it's going to look great! To my untrained eye, though, those braces look rather on the heavy side. idunno

I was thinking they may be a little heavy but they come down very thin in the scallops. And taper to 1/16" or less on the ends. Still they are a little taller than on my #2. This is englemann which was a bit softer than the Sitka I used on #1&2 so I figured it may need a little more support. With the box closed its got a decent little thump to it when you tap the soundboard. Still not as loud as #2 but is better than #1 so all in all I'm pretty happy with it. Next time I may have the braces a tad bit shorter though.

Main difference in tap between this and #2 is that the back on 2 was very lightly braced giving it an ability to vibrate whereas the back on this one is very stiff. When muting the back of 2 I get approximately the same noise and air movement from the soundboard but when not muting the back number 2 really is LOUD and really vibrates. I'm interested in seeing the difference when strung up to see what path I'll follow in the future.

Got a wee bit more done in the last few days. Fret markers. Binding channel. Endgraft. Top purfling installed. Half the binding installed.

Had a bit of an issue with the mortise in the body. Gonna have to do some reconstructive surgery. Not very happy at the moment......................

Zeke, did you work around the problem?

Post subject:  Re: Zeke's OM guitar shaped wood

I have not yet. This crazy high pollen count has had me sort of sidelined. I blame the mishap on the array of medication I was on at the time trying to battle the pretty severe allergies I've seemed to develop this year. I've been trying to wait this out but I may head to the shop today and see what I can do. This TN weather is just insane this year.

As you can see it was a bit of a blowout.

Ouch! gaah Thats a shame. Did the bit grab and throw it?

Author:  ZekeM [ Sat Apr 20, 2013 11:23 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Zeke's OM guitar shaped wood

Yes the jig came loose and the bit grabbed. Next time I'm using a smaller bit with lighter passes. And I'm improving the jig. I've cleaned up the gash and have made a piece to glue in the slot. Then I have to graft some more wood on the side. Hopefully I can get a good match.

Geeez, that deserved some four letter words for sure. Sorry about the mishap. I'm sure you'll get it squared away.

Post subject:  Re: Zeke's OM guitar shaped wood

Oh it got more than a few four letter words. If I wouldn't have been so heavily medicated I probably would have broken a lot of things ;)

Well I think I just about have it squared away. I plugged the hole with a piece of mahogany and then matched some wenge to cover the side that will be visible. I think it turned out pretty good. I don't think it will be noticeable once the finish is on. Now I just have to plug the failed mortise and try again.
