In fact Andy made me an oak neck out of a piece of plantation grown material that was planted before 1760. It turned out lighter in weight than some mahogany necks:

That oak guitar is pretty sweet. Some real nice ray fleck on that one. I think it makes great necks and I used it for bridges too, dyed black with iron/vinegar solution.
