Hello!
I have a quick question about an early 70's Ibanez 2351 Gold Top: does someone know what could be the thread on the barrel-nut (3/8" X 1 5/16" (9.5mm X 30mm) roughly) for the truss rod on this guitar? Most of the replacements I found were threaded for 10-32, but with my taps the 10-32 one just slides-in being too small. The problem is that the allen-key side of that nut is stripped... The closest tap that did fit was a M6X1 and even then it was not perfect.
So if anyone is familiar with the truss rod threading on those pre-lawsuit models, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance! :D

If the nut's threads are still a decent tight fit and not stretched out from tensioning I would take it to a specialty screw & bolt shop shop like Fastenall. They will have gauges to measure it. It could be a special machine thread. 1/4-24 is one I have used in other types of work and it would not surprise me to see this as an M-7.

Thank you Brian for your suggestion!
It might be an M7 thread indeed, I will double check with the thread gauges I have in the shop, but they are not extremely accurate for the nuts, so I might end up going to a fastener shop anyway  Also I hope it is not a 1/4-24...
But in any case, it seems that finding a replacement will be a quite impossible, so I might go to a machine shop and ask them to fabricate a dozen of replacements in stainless steel for me, that way I will have a couple of spares for next time a similar situation happens.

Maybe use a fender nut and re-thread it?

Do not use stainless!!! The nuts are typically softer than the rod so when something strips it's not the hard to replace rod..... why Gibby and most others use brass.

Thank you gentlemen for suggestions!
Indeed, it does make sense to not make it out of stainless steel (my reasoning was: it will be very hard to strip again), in order to not damage the actual truss rod that will be way harder to replace...
And rethreading an existing truss rod nut is an awesome idea! I will definitely try it!
Also, while searching for a replacement, I found these few references that might help someone in the future who might stumble on this thread:

https://reproguitarparts.com/#!/Truss-R ... p/47175176 (The owner of this website really knows his Ibanez guitars, so I take it is a M6 thread afterall)

https://www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk/p ... -type-6mm/ (These gentlemen offer a nice replacement part (according to the dimensions) at a very reasonable price... but they suspended their international shipping because of the pandemic...)
