A question for those of you who do a lot of repair work. What condition do you find most frequently is the cause for needing to do a neck reset? Is it more likely due to:
1) neck block rotation causing the top to sink in above the sound hole.
2) bridge rotation causing the top to belly up below the bridge.
3) something else.

It could be any of those things and a combination of all of those things…
Also neck warpage is going to contribute as well

Reason I ask is I’m wondering about installing a neck block buttress with carbon fibre rods from the top of the neck block to the back edge at waist. Thoughts on how effective such a system would be in eliminating or reducing the potential need for a neck reset in the future.

Yes that is why those buttresses are installed, to mitigate the need for a neck reset. Think of the body joint as the binding of a book. The guitar is trying to close up like a book because of the string tension.

I was just flipping through the pages of Hans Brentrups book on building Stella like guitars and he has them from the head block to the tail.

I have built with an extended heel block on the top that extends to the upper transverse brace. I actually glue the block to the UTB, but gluing is probably not necessary as the top and fretboard tie them together. Seems easier than the buttresses but with at least some of the benefits.

There have been a number of builders here at times but no longer who did this. Howard Klepper comes to mind and Dave White I think may have done this too. I can picture more but can't remember their names at the moment.
