Got the box put together and the sides leveled so it's ready for binding. Olive and redwood are going to be a good combination.

Looking good. Have you built a guitar with a redwood top before? I'm really looking forward to how mine will sound since it will be my first with redwood. |

Thanks J, this is also my first with a redwood top. So far the feel has been much like spruce. I'm also looking forward to hearing it when it's finished. |

Looking good. I haven't been around much but I would have voted for #1 (especially since you are keeping it an don't need your logo on it). I just don't want to see that beautiful inlay obscured by the strings. . . |

Got the binding channels cut and cleaned up tonight. Maybe I can get the binding done this week. I know, who needs another photo but I'm really liking the Redwood/Olive/curly Koa with a bit of shellac on it.

Me too. First time I've used curly maple binding. I thought it would be hard to work but was pretty easy. |

Thanks Jay. I trace the outline with a 0.3mm pencil then use a 0.020" carbide bit in a pneumatic inlay tool (Blues Creek) to hog out most of the waste. After that I clean to the line with a variety of tools. 3 Xacto knives with different shapes, a small gouge and a couple of dental picks. Here's a photo that shows most of them.

Jay, I read that you are going to an inlay class, I'd love to do that. I can cut the simple stuff but have not tried anything like this bird and flower; they came from Andy Depaule. Guess I'll have to stick with Lutherie, I'm too old to want to learn another trade. BTW, some of the dental tools are sharpened and can be used to cut chips out of small spaces. I also regrind the Xacto blades to whatever shape I need. |

Cutting the shell is the quick and easy part of inlay, you've already got the tools and skill for the hard part. |

When I saw this set of fretboard inlays I thought it looked like something you might see on a pre-war guitar so I got it when I got the hummingbird. Finished the fretboard tonight
