OLF Volunteer on #2

Mike O'Melia wanted to participate in the OLF #2 Guitar Project as many of you others have. Just wanted to thank him publicly for getting involved, please join me in that.

He purchased a two-way truss rod for the neck under construction at CNCguitarparts.com by John Watkins.

Then if that weren't enough, he answered the Californian Call from Hank for an ebony bridge blank so he could create one of his, as he calls it, "SMILEY-Face Bridges".

Update on OLF #2 Remembering Donors
Posted: 16 January 2007 at 5:51pm | IP Logged

I did a little gleaning today from an old post and found a few donors who shouldn't be forgotten.

Had some great conversations also with Hank Mauel PM'ing back and forth today. Thanks Hank for your support and encouragement.

Here are the things I think that were left off the list of donors I recently posted:

John Hall, donation of a guitar building mold when we needed one back in January or February of the last orbit around the sun. Thanks John.

Todd Rose, who purchased the used Blues Creek mold when Woolson finished his part. Thanks Todd.

Mike Tobey, who sent shipping monies to the project. Thanks, Mike.

There were a couple of donations offered but maybe not tendered because they were not needed at the time. We could probably use some shipping money soon as this guitar is on the move again. Thanks to all who offered shipping money. If you are still interested, just say so now. Thank you too.

I hope it's okay to continue to post these occasional encouraging updates in the main forum. I'm keeping the Build Forum current with pertinent info though as well.

PROFESSIONAL FINISHER NEEDED FOR THIS PROJECT. This guitar is destined for greatness. However, we do need a professional finish applied before it heads back out to Hank for the Fret JOB. Any of you guys got any suggestions? Thanks, Bruce

PS In case you were wondering, why didn't that mold come to Arkansas with the guitar so I could glue the top? Anyone remember?
(because the Woolson Linings make the rim rigid and the mold is no longer needed)

BLAKE DYSON steps up to finish the OLF #2 Guitar Project. Thanks Blake. We'll get it too you ASAP.

I saw that but I can't change Michael's Label. Besides, this label is on the wrong page, it's for #1. I'll edit that when we get our buttons back....

How you doing Tracy?

Is there any way that I might be able to help with this instrument in some small part? No matter how small it may be, I would like to have some part in showing my appreciation to Lance for his friendship and for an instrument of unparalled quality. Thank you!

John

Bruce thanks for the update. This guitar is really looking good. I had forgotten what the B/S looked like. I like that label very much even though it's not for this guitar.

Got a call from John Watkins this week.  His workload has pushed back the opportunity to work on the neck for this guitar.  I think we all understand how difficult it is to carve out "free time" from a jammed work schedule.

Thanks Bruce,
I think you are 100% correct. Its great work on a group project, but it really needs to be done "pressure free' so we can truly enjoy our contribution.

Note from John says next week looks good to work on the OLF #2 Guitar Project neck. 10 Aug 07. All right John. Thank you.

I just completed building a neck for my son's SJ and wow, it really is a lot of work. Time to go sand that a bit. Some PVA glue is peeking out on the headstock, back to square one on finishing. Think I'll make a new nut on too to get a better fit. The nut is giraffe bone.

Hey Bruce, isn't this the guitar that I donated the abalone rosette for?

I didn't see my name on there, misspelled or otherwise.

Just so you guys don't think I've forgot all about the neck for this thing, here's a teaser.

I know it's been a while, but I plan on making it worth the wait.

Tony Ferguson stepped up to the plate for us to apply the Finish to the OLF 2 Guitar Project. He replaces Blake Dyson in the above list as our finisher. Don't know what happenned to Blake but we wish him well!

Dave Rector as noted above provided the abalone for the rosette. It is our desire to remember everyone involved. Believe me it's hard to remember what happenned yesterday much less what happenned months or a year ago. We just keep on plugging though.

Way to Go Tony, an OLF Salute to you making us guitarmakers look good!
