Not real big on kits, but they are kinda fun, and slam together quick.

Built this for my youngest brother for his 35th birthday. He said he wanted a Floyd Rose and 12 frets only. He doesn't like to "make it cry or sing". This was just a mahogony SG kit I modded. Threw all the hardware in the junk box, and filled it with a bunch of Rock Audio gold stuff, some Anvil pickups, Gibson switch and 500k pots, an old "mystery" military .022 cp capacitor for the tone on the neck, NO tone knob for the bridge (it is now a master volume), and a sunk Floyd Rose. I redid the neck too 0 degree's, so it wouldn't look stupid with a tremel sitting up high. The neck pocket was a touch sloppy, I shimmed it and re cut the tenon for a nice fit, I also moved it back almost 1/2 inch to make room for the floyd pivot. I smoothed off the fret board after the 12th, and inlayed the maple monkey, oak branch, and turquoise monkey beard. The trapazoids are also maple. Plays good until you run out of frets.

Nice monkey. It certainly looks different with only 12 frets. Can you play it like a fretless up there?

I tried, it sounded like crap. I guess you could tear it up with a slide though.

12 frets make it real interesting. Don't really see that on an electric

Brand? who knows. I think it was just some run of the mill ebay kit (I'm pretty sure it was cut out by some 11 year old girls in some country somewhere not here), he turned up with it. As for the finish, I pore filled it (mixed black dye into the pore filler), and shot the burst with 1997 Chevrolet black base coat (leftovers from painting my truck). I didn't stain the wood at all, I used nitro lacquer over the top.

Plays and sounds great. I showed up at my little bro's studio for a session on Sunday. It performed VERY well.

Just curious. Why would he only want 12 frets?

Nice job - I like it! Monkeys are good and reminds me to have my daily banana.

What's the archtop in your avatar pic? Looks cool too!

One more thing, Sean - your younger brother has a hell of a nice guy for an older brother to build this for him - good going! [:Y:] [clap]
