How would walnut work for back bracing? I've got some I could use...

If you check the wood database you will find walnut to be close in specs to the properties of mahogany, which is about what I would expect. I have no problem substituting walnut for mahogany for most uses (avoid using it around animals). So if you would use mahogany for back braces, which some do, why not walnut?

Clay, why the caution? Dangerous for pets?

Hi Joe,
Walnut wood is poisonous to horses and to some other animals if they ingest it. It is also poisonous to plants, so you don't want to mulch your garden with walnut shavings or saw dust.
