Post subject:  Papazian Acquisition

I was recently very fortunate to acquire the last remnants of the shop of the Armenian born New York city luthier Manouk Papazian.
As those of you who are familiar with his work know, Papazian produced beautiful and very high quality instruments from the late 1950’s until his retirement in 1981.
Included in this purchase were some of his tools and parts as well as a number of unfinished guitar components. For those of you who might be interested in these I am currently offering some of them through my Ebay seller
(item # 190729925880).

Most importantly, included in the sale were all of Papazian’s unique and very beautiful
rosette materials which he designed and produced for his instruments.
I would like to make pieces available (free of charge) to any maker who has need of them in order to properly repair damage on Papazian’s instruments. I can be contacted via a P.M. here or through my website.
Some of the materials are used in the rosettes here:

David,

I am interested in the tools - can you let me know when you plan to list those ?

Hi John,
I really hadn't planned to list any of those as they are pretty common stuff.
There was a large quantity of machinist tools (metal lathe cutters, large taps and dies, heavy duty drill bits and the like) which I gave to a friend that has a machine shop.
The woodworking tools are fairly mundane, hand planes, scroll saws, rasp files etc.
Was there anything you were looking for in particular?

no - just reading the line I quoted above it sounded like you were going to list a lot more than what I found on ebay. But now rereading the quote - I guess you are just listing the unfinished guitar componenets - it makes sense now. Chisels would have been good to see and I have an interest in knives - luthier knives or other -

John, there will be some more parts up next week, 3 (2 are one piece!) old Honduras mahogany backs, two spectacular curl Euro Maple backs and another south American (Honduras?, Bolivian?) rosewood rim similar to what's up now.
Not an organized one guitar's worth of parts (a "kit") but a lot of various stuff.

David, I had the pleasure to do some light restoration on one of our student's Papazian guitars last year. One of the nicest 20th century instruments I have worked on. A great guitar maker.

He definitely had some different ideas about construction Colin and his guitars were characterized by extremely high quality woods.
