Post subject:  which sander to use

Hello friends
I am tired of sanding the back and sides and tops so i wish to buy motorized sander
getting confused between random sander and random orbital sander
random sander is little cheaper about $30 and random orbital sander is about $120.
money is not constraint .. but some say RS are good and some say ROS are better
had anyone used both?
may i know which is more useful??

Well Ive never heard of a "random sander " Unless your talking about a Square pad Sander . Spend the $120.00 and get the ROS .

Random orbital sander is much better than the square pad ones.
I have a porter cable 'low profile' ROS. It's ok, better than the tall ones....
If money is truly no object, Mirka makes an ROS that has real time speed control, which is an awesome feature, especially if you want to use it to sand finishes....waiting for that day...

+1 for porter cable 'low profile' ROS. I use it attached to my shop vac with perferated disks from rough sanding at 80 to 1500 grits.

I have a 5" Festool circular ROS with dust collection and variable speed control. It works great. In retrospect I probably would not spend the extra money on Festool but an ROS with dust collection is a must. I have used the cheaper square kind and I would not recommend it for luthery work. It was too shaky and rough. After a long sanding my hand was numb. You get a much cleaner, consistent result with an ROS.
