I was going to start planing some stuff today, and discovered that the hoseshoe looking part that engages the blade adjustment broke... is there any way I can find a replacement part for that? It looks to be made of bronze so was wondering if I can simply solder or braze it back together... |

I do not see you have anything to lose by at least trying that. I would go for brazing, or possibly better silver soldering if you have the facilities. Quote from a retailer selling replacements - Quote: Many manufacturers intentionally use weak materials for the Y-Lever so that it will fail first if the plane is adjusted with the lever cap set too tight.

What kind of plane is it? You can readily find old Stanley bedrock plane parts on Ebay, although this doesn't look like a Stanley plane part. If it's a newer plane have you tried contacting the manufacturer? If you end up having to get a new plane try Ebay. I once got an off brand vintage plane on Ebay for $0.99. I was the only bidder. It cost $6 to ship. Im sure the seller was not pleased! I stripped it down to use as a fretboard/fret level ala Frank Ford style. But it still would have made a great working plane. |

So where can I find this part? or does no one sell them? I do not know who manufactured this plane... it has no markings on it. I bought it from the store in Berlin. |

Then surely the only thing to do is attempt a repair, or to contact the supplier. No guarantee it's the same thing at all, but here is supplier for a chinese manufactured replacement plane Y lever. http://www.workshopheaven.com/tools/Quangsheng_Plane_Y-Lever_Brass.html I am sure similar items can be found in the states as well. |
