Perhaps Lance could be persuaded to transfer ownership of the OLF. It would not be hard to transfer this site to a modern forum system on a VPS for about $1000/year.

Yes please! I’d pay $$ to not have to resize my images every time I wanted to post!

I would be more than happy to subscribe to a fully functional and sustainable version of this forum. It is an incredibly valuable resource (at least to me) and I would hate to see it ever go away.

I've never used the classifieds or other added features the OLF may have, but as a forum for sharing knowledge I have been completely happy with it. Lately even the car companies are trying to add subscription services for features that are built into the car, but can be switched on or off by them remotely. I think the forum would lose many of those who now participate if it was one more thing they had to pay to subscribe to.

Paid my fee on 5/24/2023. As of today, no access to classifieds section. I guess thats "only" 4 days, and it's a holiday weekend...I sent a PM, and an e-mail, hope he gets it set up soon

Thanks for the reminder, Brad. I had been a Patron, but then I guess it stopped at some point (for some reason I don’t know or understand), and I have just now set it up again.

I agree, Clay. Pay to play makes sense when the dollars are getting access to specific expertise (i.e. The Looth Group, Tom Bills art of lutherie, etc…)

An open forum should be just that. Amateurs and pros are all able to contribute equally.

Premium content, in this case the classifieds, makes sense to require payment. Thinking back to when I started, if I was hit with a paywall to see the site I would have moved on to other sites.

The paid classifieds never made sense to me. If it was free it would obviously have a lot more traffic. A better payment system would be a small percentage of each sale going to the forum. An open classified would probably draw more traffic to the discussion part of the forum.

Back in the day we’d have swap meets once or twice a year. They were really cool, but seemed to require a bit of work and I believe Lance (and Brock at the time) got a percentage of sales. The classifieds came as an updated , year round version of it.
