Spent this morning doing some fettling on a fretless conversion. Whoever did the initial job eschewed the usual practice of pulling the frets and filling the slots. Instead, they opted to file the entire crown off every fret, leaving just the tang in the slot.

I have no idea how long this took whoever did it. A day? A week?

It sure looks cool, especially with a freshly re-filed surface - which was necessary as the bass now experiences fret sprout on the surface as well as the edges of the board.

Those are the finest, highest quality, vintage, luthier-grade bricks lovingly collected from a back yard patio project and cut to exacting tolerances for a multitude of uses in the shop. I have a set of six of them.

Great guitar Michael, you pulled off the headplate inlay perfectly, those salmon are floating over the rock bed. The rest of your inlay work, perfs and rosette are not too shabby either. Love it.

After bending the maple bindings in my side bender, I'm using my bending iron which has aluminium supports held by hose clips on to try to get them to follow the more than 3/4" rise and fall of the curves in the cylindrical back of the guitar.

Someone posted a pic of a similar arrangement with the bending iron on the forum, but the name escapes me.
Anyway thanks for the tip, I couldn't do this without it.
It's so much fun, I'm thinking of switching to plastic binding next guitar!
