Cool top. I like the ones where the bear claw patterns have symmetry like that. Nice fretboard wood too.

Thank! Yea it’s almost a lightning look ha. I’m going to French polish the top. I can’t resist the 3d look fp gives the bearclaw stuff! Should look pretty slick

Oooo!!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I like the choices you made. The fretboard with the simple.wide binding, and interesting shape is quite nice. Might as well make things that are different! Nice photos too.

Thanks! Bending the binding was a challenge. I do t have a proper pipe so I used a heat gun clamped in my vise as one ha.

I believe Sapele (and Bubinga) make wonderful guitars, but aren't given enough respect because of the price. While I do have a 14' 4"x10" plank of H Hog, I've been using it mainly for lighter weight necks. Sapele can make a very good neck too, but is a little heavier.

Sapele is great actually. Light and resonant. But I ga is nice too… but I find it heavier and harder to get to a thickness I feel “works”… it does finish easily though:)
