Bought a bunch of luthiers tools, wood and jigs today. Check these two out. The calipers are 18" in length. And an original Safety Planer in the box.

Nice score, Dave would want the calipers for measuring mando fret scales for his fret spacing project.

Nice score!
I have been lucky enough to acquire 2 virtually new Wagner Safe-T-Planers and a 24" vernier caliper in excellent condition.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Vernier calipers are such a pain to read. I have a couple sitting around but only use a digital since my eyesight went south. That looks like a nice caliper, though. What brand?
