This is a commission for a guy who is very involved in our local Nooksack river salmon habitat restoration programs. Hence the spawning fishy colors.

It’s an OM Fan-fret, Sitka over Myrtle.

More pics to follow.

Merry whatever you're into!

Well Michael

Happy to be the first to say, "You should post a lot more progress shots..."

The meticulous workmanship was a pleasure to look at!

And I love the red purf lines throughout, thanks for showing. It's gorgeous.

As someone said that looks like very precise building. I love it. I see you’ve persuaded the kerfed lining to go around the cutaway very neatly. I struggle with this. Is it down to a relatively wide kerf? What wood are using for this?

Anyway please keep the images coming.

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

To get the kerfed linings to go around the cutaway, I mark the offending tight spots, hold it in my parrot vice and drag a folded-over piece of 120 paper through the kerfs while bending the lining back on itself in the offending areas. It only takes a few pulls to get it to behave. I use bass wood to make my linings. Below is a vid of the Gizmo I made to cut my linings. I recommend turning the volume down unless you want to listen to a screaming bearing.

Great shape for the body, immaculate fit and finish of components, beautifully done.

Thanks Michael.

That is a mighty fine contraption. I have seen a more engineering type, ie made of metal. Yours is much more a woodworkers solution. I note feeding it into a curve so that you don't hit the pillar of the bandsaw.

Cheers Dave

Nice! Interesting how you glue the top brace to the rimset before gluing the top. Would you be willing to share your rational and techniques for placing the correct angle into the upper bout for proper neck set?

Thanks!

Hi Terence,

I’d be very happy to share my thinking. Do you do FaceTime or equivalent?

Best, M

Beautiful, neat work Michael and I see a few new tricks that I never knew too such as centerlines on the dish and creative use of blocks for the go-bars. Great stuff.

Makes me want to build again and looks fun.

Mr Colbert, perhaps can can post progress shots more often, at least for this build.
I'm enjoying these very much.

Today’s effort -

Tomorrow I will profile the rims for the Manzer wedge, install the back linings and side reinforcement, then on to the sound port.
