I made a really nice board today.
When i got done and was admiring the work I wondered if I should have cut slots in the inlay before
Binding the board.

Will the frets hold with 3mm of tang nipped off on both sides?

It's normal to slot the purfling before binding but that little bit probably wouldn't hold much tang anyway. You should be good with a little more tang nipped off. Worst case is a little CA to hold it.

Super job on the board, and yes - with care and skill, the frets will stay put. Heck, with something that nice - they'll WANT to!

I wouldn't want tangs biting into shell anyway since it would chip when refretting in the future.

I wouldn’t cut the shell. I’d just nip the frets and use CA.

True that. I've never used shell for purfling on a board before but that makes a lot of sense.
