Not a lutherie example, but I stumbled across this YouTube video that's a pretty interesting watch. The first computers I worked with way back when used the punched paper tape they're using here. Guess that dates me, eh?

Count me in those days, too. I remember when bubble chips were considered a step up. Now they don't even make them.

In the late 70's up into the early 2000's I was writing G-code every day. I was good. I could get some jobs done quicker than the CATIA jockeys could program the job.

CATIA jockey, but tooling/fixturing design side.

CATIA in Wichita had to be aircraft, right?

Yup.
But it's good for making anything, really. The gubmint funded the development of CATIA years ago for the military to build submarines, and the like. They just keep making it better and better.

Another "CATIA Jockey" here, tooling and loft guy.
But you coudn't MDI a 5 axis helicopter blade or leading edge :). I miss those days.
