I dropped my ukulele on concrete and have discovered the vulnerability of nylon strings over a zero-fret. Most of the weight in the neck is in the head and tuners, this causes the instrument to fall head-down and exposes the zero-fret as the most likely point of contact with the ground, concrete or rock. The strings are caught between a rock and a zero-fret. I lost one string and damaged two.
I am partial to Aquilla strings so I tried Oasis strings as a replacement. The Oasis tenor low-G warms tune-up faster, are louder, are a bit brighter than Aquillas. They probably have higher tension.
A minor hazard that I hadn't considered before. A nut provides some degree of protection.

I think it's a pretty good day if the strings are all you have to worry about after an encounter with concrete. But still, always good to note all the little advantages and disadvantages of each design decision 
I'll stick with Aquila.
