Even though nobody cares anymore about this build, i'm finishing it. So I got the purfs and binding done. I used curly sycamore on this. It matches the neck pretty well. ImageImageImageImage 22 hours of shop time.

Nice job on the semi-hemispherical fret end dressing (or, sphed as we call it at my house)! That is a very cool looking fretboard.

Thanks Beth. I dress my ends before I tap them in. After they are all in, I go over them with a small file to touch up and sand with 320 grit sandpaper to make it smooth on your hands. It's a Hickory fretboard and I have some wood left over I might smoke some ribs up with when the guitar is done. Jason

I got the bridge done today. I clamped it in my drill press vise, and lined the holes up in a line, so all I have to do is loosen the clamp a little and slide the bridge down. They will all keep in a nice line. Then I shaped on a spindle/drum sander. I forgot to take a picture of slotting the thing. I screw the bridge down with 2 screws in the holes, and then I used stew macs slotting system. I got it cheap from some guy selling all his stuff a couple years ago. Maybe if I get time next week i'll set up a photo to show you. The box is almost ready for finish.ImageImageImageImage

What is the bridge made of?

Hickory. Same as the fretboard and faceplate. I should bring it to work and weigh it.

I like it.

Post subject:  Re: Jason Moe's Build

So I just weighed 3 bridges.
1.Ebony-1.3 oz or 36.85 grams
2.IRW- 1.0 oz or 28.35 grams
3.Hickory 1.05oz or 29.76 grams.
The Hickory bridge does not have champhered holes. So that would add a touch of weight. Pretty much comparable to IRW weight.

You could taper the wings a bit more if you want to lose some more weight.

I like the light FB and bridge! Are you going to coat the FB with something to keep it looking clean?

Nope, if I play it enough to get it dirty, so be it. I was thinking of selling it though. I'm setting up the neck angle and doing more sanding. I'm having a hard time getting rid of some burn marks in the waist.

Glued bridge on, and added some maple to the heel of the neck. I had too much taper in the heel and some of the side showed. So I cut some of the neck heel off and glued on a wider piece.

Is that a Fox bridge clamp? I use something similar and I love it. No clamps in the way to clean up the glue squeeze.

So I started putting lacquer on. I love seeing how the color and curl pops when you first hit it.

Thanks Tony. The curly ash I got from Jim Kirkwood. I got a couple more sets. This one was the most gnarley with knots and a few worm holes and this and that. Lots of weird figure. It bent like a dream. It's sad seeing all these ash trees around here being cut down due to the emerald ash borer beetle. Alot of wood is going to be wasted.

Well after screwing around with the neck joint forever, and waiting for 3 weeks for my finish to come in. I got my finish done. I bolted the neck on tonight, and glued the fretboard down.

Just because the challenge is over doesn't mean you don't have to post a video. Can't wait to see it!
