Good afternoon,

It's been a while since I've posted on the forum. I hope everyone is doing well.

I built a Weissenborn style guitar well over a decade ago, but did a few things incorrectly.

Also, the fish glue I used failed mainly on the back, but also a couple of braces on the top. When I removed the some of the braces I didn't remove the braces cleanly, so some of the mahogany is on the braces.

I'm not sure how I should approach this problem. All suggestions would be appreciated.

Clean up (sand, scrape or plane) the joint's surfaces, both on the bottom of the braces and on the back. Then re-glue.

While you are in there you might want to grab ahold of the other braces and give a good twist to make sure they don't come loose too.

Thank you. Very much appreciate it.

I remember reading here about fish having the same properties as HHG as far as being able to reactivate with the application of fresh glue. Anyone with experience on the subject?

This is another example of fish glue failures and that should be pointed out.

Guitars are not always kept in ideal environments.... an understatement and this is why we don't use fish glue.

I'd use Titebond original for the repairs.

How did the fish glue fail? Did it unglue itself due to high humidity?

It's hard to see how thick that mahogany is on the braces but what you might be able to do is use a very sharp chisel and try to remove it with one clean shot then you can glue it back in place.

Hi,
Sorry everyone for the delayed response, but I had to replace my keyboard. Thanks to everyone that replied.

The mahogony isn't very thick. I remember the glue failing shortly after completing the build.
I'm using Titebond this time around.
