Holiday long weekend in Canada. Installed a new 1 micron canister filter on my 2 horse dust collector then added an Oneida Super Dust Deputy into the system. Made the x brace for my mini OM. Now need the RH to go down to brace the top and close the box, might just have to turn on the AC.

Chris,

I'd be happy with that heel laminate too!

Finished rehabbing this tool chest, a gift from my brother, and in the process of transferring everything from the Grizzly chest, I spent the whole weekend doing cleanup and reorg on my bench, which was way overdue.

Always liked Gerstner chests. I never did buy one, though. I still have my monstrously huge by large Kennedy stack from my days as a tool & die maker.

Wow Chris, that purfling on the quilted body is awesome. I just got an airbrush, so I've been working on my first burst. I'm quite excited about it actually. I've been wanting to do one for a while after seeing some incredible ones on here, so I decided to go for it on this one.
Hope everyone's having a great week.

There's an art to tool and die making in my book.

I saw this chest on craigslist for $49. I asked my brother to pick it up for me, but when he brought it over he wouldn't accept payment for it. From the 40s, near as I can tell. It needed some veneer reglued, finish touchup, felt for one drawer and two knobs.

I also have a small old Kennedy chest full of car tools from another life.

That tortoise binding looks great. [:Y:]

I have one that I'm getting ready to (someday) bind with tortoise. Did you back the tortoise with a lighter color piece? Or better yet, can you tell me what you used for your binding\purfling on this one?

Nice work,

John

Thanks John,

The binding & purflings came from Guitar Maker's Connection.

I used:
Thick Black/White 13B065 for the side & top purflings
Thin Black/White 13B0325 for the back purfling

I originally wanted to use the thin stuff for the side purflings but I messed up & routed to the tail wedge slot too wide so I had to use the wider stuff.

I think the top purfling/binding could look better. As it is, the binding and each purfling stripe are about the same thickness. I think it would look better with varying line thickness but I don't want to route things off & start over - I can live with it.

If you use a router to trim the tail wedge top & bottom, you will probably have to do a climb cut to get a clean edge - it chipped when I tried to do a regular cut.

Nothing new on my elle-zero-zero this week as I am pushing hard to complete the rowboat.

Finished the paint, got the deck together except for a few screws, making up the oar blanks, and made an 8 stave bird's mouth joint 12' hollow mast. Made patterns for the leeboards, rudder, and oar blades, etc. etc.

The photo of the end of the spar looks a little loose as this is just the test fit before glue up.

Chris, thanks for the link to the photos. That is going to be incredible with a burst on it. I'll be watching for that to get finished up. As for the Teredo spruce, it came from the same source as Benedetto's, Alaska specialty woods. You don't see it listed very often, and when I saw it I knew I couldn't pass it up. I tried to find more a while back and found a supplier of full logs, but I didn't have close to the amount of money to buy a full log.

From left to right, les paul-esque thing made from reclaimed mahogany, Cedar/Maple classical, Rosewood/Lutz all hand tool flamenco, 000-12 fret Lutz/rosewood, and up at the top, a Lutz/rosewood harp uke. I should probably start making necks now.

Thanks, Tony. The pernambuco is really impressive, there is something extra in the sound of that guitar that I haven't heard before. I wish I could get more...

Foolin' around with CAD and the cnc and a logo for my own guitars. This is the first attempt. Pretty close but I have adjusted some of the lines now and will try in shell once I am happy with the lines. It is a stylized "S" and "N" which are my initials of course! I thought it was small but I think it is really about the right scale.

Started with this sketch I did:

And then here is the inlay and the pocket: Ebony ad spruce

And the inlay popped in the spruce:

Thanks

Shane, looks very nice. If you are still experimenting, my observation is the logo is just a bit too abstract. Far from obvious that they are letters. If that is what you want, you've nailed it. If you want folks to realize the are letters, I think you need to morph the design a bit closer to letters.

Filippo

the "S" is obvious but i had to look at his last name to notice the "N"

Thanks for the feedback fella's. I do indeed want it a bit abstract. I feel that logo's don't really need to say anything (look at the nike "swish") but can be become recognizable over time. Not there will ever be enough of this logo be ever have any sort of mass recognition, I just like the lines and the idea that it is "different".

Shane

Looking to close the box on a Martin 0 size Parlor this weekend. This is my first scratch guitar that I am building at home.
