My best was spending half a day designing a sliding jig that would be attached to the drill press table to help drill fret marker locations with. The design was something that I could clamp in place, put a fretbaord blank in the cradle, and slide it through as I drilled knowing that all the holes would be in the center as long as the first one was. I turned the lock on the drill press table when I got the position for the first hole exactly right, and I even tested it by hitting the drill press table with my palm, and it was solid as a rock. I began drilling holes and after about four I noticed that they were veering off to the left. I tried to figure it out for about 15 minutes thinking it was my jig but then I saw it. What I forgot to do was lock the position on the head of the drill press, which i now know is ALSO adjustable. Ruined a nice IR fretboard too, but at least I didn't almost cut my thumb off like the guy I'm voting for as the winner! lol

After I true up the sides of a back I frequently forget to true up the opposite edge before joining so I can easily cut the waste wood for binding. Same with sides, I usually true the top edge and cut the profile into the back edge. I always forget to true the back edge before cutting the profile.
I just started three new guitars and I didn't forget this time!
Arnt, I'm sorry about the finger, sounds like it'll turn out OK though.
