It all smacks a bit of the emperors new clothes...if you can't hear a difference then you obviously haven't got a very refined sense of hearing....kind of thing!

This is a joke and total junk science. The fact that a meter was used means nothing. The performer, if he believes the instrument is improved, will unknowingly play better. Subtle changes in Bow technique will have a major impact on sound.
It is more the musician than the instrument. The performer that thinks his instrument is great will play better. No doubt there are better and poorer quality instruments. Still, the performer is the primary source of the music and quality of sound. The instrument is like any tool. In the hands of an expert amazing things can happen.

Rob, kinda don/t think you will get a tap tone .But the awl is vy useful as a background stamping tool when making a symmetrical carving on the heeel of a neck.
