That is what I thought you meant Colin and as with many details on guitars you will find that there are many neck heel shapes. I personally dislike the wide heel shape especially when they are very square, but will do whatever the buyer desires as long as it will not harm the structure or sound of the guitar and can be done properly within my skill level.

One of the greatest things in this craft is the extensive array of detail that is used by different builders. I enjoy checking out sites like Dream Guitars that have extensive pictures of high end guitars. The last 2 years at the Montreal guitar show whenever I had a chance to get away from my table I really enjoyed looking at what everyone else was doing on their latest builds.

In Fred's defense, (not that he needs it) both ways look nice to me. The blended heel and cutaway are obviously more difficult to accomplish. I've not heard that players prefer one over the other. A third option is a more squared heel that meets with florentine and venetian cutaways. All this is subject to the eye of the builder. Another option is the LeGeyt style cutaway. I only call it that because Burton was the first person that I saw do a cutaway like that. It is very comfortable to play with as well.

Only badly."

Gorgeous, Fred.

Don't forget to bring it inside though.

It won't be there in the morning.

I just added a link to a short video clip of the guitar. I tried to use the [youtube] function from the menu but it did not work so posted the link

I had the chance to video the Baritone this weekend at an open mic. The new owner Robert Stark has had it now for almost 4 months and has worked out the chord substitution required to use it in his performances. Recorded with my my Ipod touch so the sound is not as good as with a proper mic. but gives an idea of what is there.

Check it out on my youtube

Nice work, Fred! That's a truly handsome guitar. I always figure that everything sounds way better in person than over the Internet. That means your guitars must sound fantastic!

I've been thinking of "borrowing" your headstock shape for quite some time now. Hmm... it gets ever more tempting each time I see it. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

Thanks for sharing,

George it was influenced by some I saw on others guitars including the Gallagher. These things seem to evolve over time from what we have seen. I am thinking of going asymmetrical with the tuners offset a bit like on my fan fret and my latest has the width narrowed due to a router accident and I like the shape and will probably use it again.

Hi Fred,

Well, we made it on to the OLF finally!!! We are very excited to see such a rich knowledge and information. We can't wait to fill our heads with all of it...whenever we fine the time.

We gotta say, that guitar is something else. Look forward to following more.

Thanks for lighting the fire to get us on here by the way. :)

Maurice and Travis
