Happy tenth and thanks to all, especially Lance for making this all possible.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Thanks so much, Lance...and all of those who are so generous with your time and talent! I doubt I'd still be building without the OLF!

Ah, Lance, congrats and thanks my friend.
I probably speak for many when I say I'm a better builder because of this place.
And all in the context of such friendship! Kudos mate!

Happy Birthday OLF! Great work Lance. The Luthier community would be diminished without this great forum.

I just recently was thinking about the weekend in Baltimore at the ASIA symp. You, me, Tom Dowey, John Osthoff, Don Atwood, Steve from Colonial, Bob the Zootman!
Wow! I know there were more.

The interesting question is what our active membership is. We have a huge amount of accounts that have zero posts. If you haven't posted here, you're hardly a member. You might be a reader, but a member is someone that contributes, too, even if that contribute is in the form of asking questions.

I'd be surprised if our active membership (say, 1 post a month minimum) is more than 300 people or so. That said, it's a nice size for a niche community like ours! Kinda homey :-)

Filippo

Active members, members that only read, non members that only read. It does not matter to me. I look at the OLF as both a community and a resource. Both being very important parts. The numbers say that we have a LOT of readers/visitors.

Congratulations and a very big thank you, Lance. I am also grateful for the wealth of information and for the great relationships that I have made with many our members and sponsors.

There! I'm glad to have made a post since according to Filippo, I would be otherwise "hardly a member".

Congratulations to Lance and the OLF community. I've been here almost 6 years now and cannot begin to describe how invaluable the OLF has been to me with the wealth of knowledge and patience that exists among its members who are so willing to share. Admittedly, thus far in my journey I am more of a receiver than giver but I suspect most here were in the same position once upon a time. My turn will come and I too will be openly sharing what knowledge the OLF helped me acquire. And I'll be glad the OLF will be there to foster that. Continued success! [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:]

Good job my friend. Not many of us originals from day one around anymore. Like Don said, makes me feel old. But then I am, so guess it works out OK.

Congrats Lance and OLF! Thanks for making the guitarmaking world a bit smaller and helping us newbies getting together with so many amazingly talented people who like to share their knowledge.

Thank you Lance and everyone. I’ve learned more from the collected wisdom of OLF members than any other resource available. Nuggets here and there quickly add up to a gold mine.
