I can understand that - taking your time is often a good thing to do when attempting a new repair. While you are waiting you could glue up a test piece or two with fish glue and test one or more of the methods that have been discussed here. Good luck with it.

I have glued up a couple pieces of maple about 1/4 inch thick. Have let it set/cure for two days. Tomorrow I will try to separate the two pieces using heat only. ( i.e. clothes iron.)

Give them a bit more time than that, another 2 or 3 days. You really need to make sure that all the residual moisture from the glue has gone.
