I seem to remember a conversation I read once that concluded fretboard wear was mostly caused by fingernails rather than strings. I could be making that up, but if not, she might wear through faster.
Stabilizing sounds like the best idea to me if it will glue to stuff. I've only ever turned it. If you can't find a source, it's not that hard to do yourself if you've got a vacuum pump. Now that I've said that, I guess I only ever did it to fill and stabilize punky wood, not to saturate good wood. Perhaps my experience does not apply here.
