Padauk is a denser wood than mahogany, and would tend to make a heavier neck. It's also quite stiff, though, and you could make the neck a bit shallower. That can be a two-edged sword, though. There was maker in the Boston area who used to make really thin necks on his guitars. One of his customers started having left hand troubles, which he found he could alleviate by building up the back of the neck with duct tape. When he got a comfortable thickness he had me 'beef up' the neck to match: not an easy job. I did another one for a different customer of the same maker a while later. There is such a thing as 'too thin', at least where guitar necks are concerned.

Black walnut = 38 (+ 3%)
Red maple = 38 (+ 3%)
Black cherry = 35 (- 5%)
Douglas fir = 32 ( - 14%)
Sassafras = 31 (- 18%)
Spanish cedar = 29 (- 22%)
Port Orford Cedar = 29 (- 22%)
