I started building true flat tops on the last 4 or 5 or so guitars I've built. Actually my very first one 25 years ago which was right out of Sloan's book was true flat as well. I don't know why I started building flat. I thought I'd give it a try and liked the way it came out. I use an A-Brace to strengthen up the forward portion of the top that could benefit from the strength of an arch.
