Dang Danny!!!!!

That will turn even the most traditional Martin lover into a Maple convert. You did a fantastic job letting the natural beauty do the talking.

Thanks brother!! Hopefully one of these days I won't be in such a hurry to get to and get home. I drove past Calgary this summer. Would have liked to track you down but couldn't swing it.

Cheers!

I'm glad to see Brent post here. He's a dependable provider of sitka with a lot of silk in the figure. I can prove it.

The medularies, that some refer to a silk or fleck, is revealed by the cut. Some logs different than others. But if the log has a centered heart, believe it or not, the medularies will be strongest at about 2 degrees off of VG. Logs with offset heart will seldom if ever display medularies the full 9" width of the VG cut. It's Way Too hard for me to explain. I could show ya show ya though.

Very nice! I have built a bunch of size 2's and my favorites were a BZ/Lutz and a double side IRW/Sitka both with BZ bridges. One had an Ebony fretboard the other BZ. They had a warm sound but with good string to string balance and clarity.

Do you have any pictures of the bracing? What was the soundboard thickness?

Great work!

Silk. One syllable is just easier for us lazy folks Brent.

Rays are certainly a nice bonus. Don't know what causes them but I sure like it. The photos of this one don't do it justice and the degree of it didn't really show up until finishing.

Thank you very much Terry. Lots of inspiration came from you with these little guitars. Players love them. Especially older folks. They are very comfortable.

Thickness would appear to be .101. This would be at glueing it to the body. I do a fair bit of thinning on the lower bout around the edges after its on. I try not to get too close to the heel block with thinning to avoid distortion. Probably ended up at about .75 around the lower wings. Wish I had a Hacklinger Gauge. I just do it by flex.

BZ? Brazilian? One of my nicest was a Lutz/EIR. I think I'm going to try Wenge for my next one. Poor mans BRW.

And hey. #1525. That's my 25th instrument! How time flies.

Your bracing looks almost identical to mine. I see you splayed the X out a bit. Me too. Did you use a longer bridge? Mine are almost 7".

My tops frequently wind up around .090-.100 and I thin the edges too.

You may find that with playing it just keeps getting better.

It's a beauty.

I think the bracing is pretty much the same layout from the Antes plan. Got the tone bar right on this one.
A 6 " bridge just catches the x with a 24.9 scale which is what I use. I made the last couple bridges 6 1 /4 ".

If you get a chance I'd like to see a shot of one of yours with a 7 " bridge.

Thanks for the kind words.

I don't have any scientific proof of the cause, But my theory is from just observing how trees grow, and what I seen from dissecting millions of bdft of trees into products. it appears that the "Silk" look, is a longitudinal-side, Like splitting a hair length-ways, view of the perimedullary as one cell of xylem and phloem is added upon another, as the tree grows.

I would think the maple back and neck would contribute to the brighter sound, especially on a parlor. Looks like a deep box. What's the lower bout width?

Thanks Haans. 12 1/4" lower bout and I think 4 1/8" deep.

Danny, mine is 12-1/2" and 3-1/2" at the end pin. Should have some photos up in a week or two. Don't move as fast as I used to. White Oak of course...
Is that X braced or Ladder?

I found one. I like the tapered tone bar on yours, I might steal that. Your bridge plate looks a little thicker than mine. I worried about that long narrow bridge plate but my first one is about 6-7 years old and is holding up well. (Of course the tone bar is on the wrong side!)

For what it's worth there is a whole build sequence on one I built 5 or 6 years ago at

You might not like the tone from that guitar,
but, it might be perfect for some recording applications!
