Surprisingly the guitar came out unscathed, due to my immediate actions. It seems the CA was more attracted to me. Some vigorous block sanding and gentle scraping removed most of the glue from the guitar. Most of the damage was done to my boxers and my pride. Since I am able to laugh at it now… idunno ..How does this laugh at or laugh with me thing work?

Tony, those pictures would not have been for the squeamish. If they had used those pictures in Guantanamo Bay,…it would have been considered a cruel and unusual means of torture. :)

Here is another contender...

I just got the new larger 10" bandsaw in (2 wheel, cutting height of around 6", 1/2 HP motor) and I proceeded to cut some of my Japanese coil stocks to fit the saw... except the problem is, I was supposed to cut 1850mm of saw blades, and my ruler is 60cm max, so what did I do? I thought I'd 60cm and double the length, but in some momentary moment of brain fart or whatever, I failed to realize that 60 x 2 is 120, not 180, so I ended up with a length of bandsaw blade that is too short to fit any saw (when I made it into a circle I noticed that the circle seems a bit too small, and that's when I realized I had made a mistake). So rather than making two welds (which I am not sure if that would compromise the blade quality) I had to pull out more blades and this time I tripled the length of the ruler rather than double, and added another 6cm to that, and the length is right.

After brazing them I installed it and there seems to be a slight misalignment (because I am still waiting for my blade splicing jig) otherwise the blade worked real well without breaking, unlike the 3 wheel stuff that just eats bandsaw blades for breakfast.

Oh, and the reason I welded up some blades, is because the blade that came with the saw was dull out of the box!

Save the 120cm for when you get a 4" saw...

Actually I was thinking... attach a short section to a handle, narrow the blade to 1/8" and use it for slotting bridge pin holes, or attach it to a bow like frame and use it as a hand saw...

OK, this might just take the cake. It's not a guitar but it did happen in my shop.

Just this afternoon, I was taking my kids out to the shop to work on a Christmas present for my wife/their mom, you know to keep surprises :). Well, I open the door and walk in and then I hear "Awwwwww, that's sooooooooooooo cute" from my 2 daughters. OH, MY GOSH!!!!! They walked in and there in front of them was my youngest daughters Christmas present, a play kitchen I made for her. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Can't repair this, replace it or redo it...... I definitely feel like a Doofus!

Joe, to answer you question about laughing at or with yourself, I have the answer: You do both of them simultaneously. It's easy. I'm forced to do it all the time! Glad your guitar came out okay....and your skin, too! Sorry about that pair of boxers, but what the heck.....

Bailey,

That is awful! This is definitely not a recoverable situation. I'm not too sure that you are a doofus here, but you have to assume that nobody else knows what is valuable in your shop. I know Wud likes it when doofus posts generate something positive maybe it can. I just realized I have been keeping several chunks of old spruce from my friends 30+ year old exterior door. It is all tight grained and quartered. I intend to (someday) split it and see what I've got; until then it is sitting in my garage. This thread made me realize that it is leaning up in the corner, right next to a pile of construction debris that we are slowly putting out with the trash. I'll move it tonight before the wife mistakes it for garbage.

Nothing to do with the awards, but this reminds me of the time my youngest daughter decided to play a trick on my eldest and put all of her clothes in giant plastic garbage bags and hid them in my shop. No one told me about it and on trash day, they felt just like bags of wood chips and sawdust...(I mainly was building cabinets then)...yep, you guessed it! A whole teenaged daughter's wardrobe....LANDFILL! So, not only did we have to re-dress the daughters (one literally, the other figuratively), but the old clothes went to waste...not even donated to folks who could use them...

My congrats to Joe for winning this "coveted" award--and even more so for having the sense of humor to tell us his story in the first place!

I am not one for long speeches, so on that note:

Thank You, Wudwrkr, Filippo Morelli, Herr Dalbergia, callyrox, Jim_H and everyone who rallied in my behalf. I will Be Proud and honored to carry the uncoveted "Doofus of the Month Award". The prize is perfect and fitting as I am now in need of more glue; this time I will be sure not to wear it.

Filippo Morelli, I imagine you are sad to pass the avatar to the next generation of Doofus. It is good to know I am in good company; as a beginner, far superior Luthiers have shouldered this mantle.
Ladies, Gentlemen may you never super glue your underwear to your short hairs.

OK now that's pretty funny. Thanks for the laugh, at your expense no less, Joe. I'm going to defiantly try much harder in January.

Best of the Season,

Joe's wonderful acceptance speech proves my point: Here's a good man with a wonderful, self-deprecating sense of humor. All in good fun, Joe. Someone else has to assume the role next month, but you've set the bar pretty high in terms of laughing along with us at your own goof! My hat is off to you.
