I gotta say here, what an intelligent bunch hang out here. I wrote something in this thread earlier that didn't get posted, apparently. I just want to say, however, that people are doing really well here expressing their heartfelt opinions without going off the rails or playing "gang up on that guy." Forums *are* their people, and whether I agree with a particular person on a particular point, I am happy to be here where I feel like I can be myself, warts and all, and not worry about being ostracized for my opinion on some "sideband" topic that comes up for discussion.

Great job, guys (and gals?) Gentlepeople all. [:Y:]

I disagree and the rest of you are ALL nuts.... :D

Thanks Mark - the OLF is a friendly forum.

Regarding SawStop my sense is that the original and even subsequent approaches to the market and regulatory agencies made by SawStop's inventor seems to have turned off so many people that some are not concerned about cutting of their noses to not be forced to adopt this technology.

I can't agree with this thinking. If there is a way to build a better mouse trap that reduces or eliminates a specific serious, permanent, and frequent injury why not adopt it? My understanding is that schools have been fast to adopt SS's technology and understandably so in as much as a young person's hand probably is worth more to a jury than say my 53 year old hand.

Anyway regardless of the personalities and having attended a SS demonstration and viewed first hand an unscathed hotdog... it's clear to me that the value is there with a SawStop saw. If I can purchase a safer tool even if it costs more with my lack of proper experience with power tools I would be a fool not to go with the safer bet - always.

Agree with the verdict or not if you let others use your tools even if you don't care about your own hotdog you might want to consider the ramifications of what happens if someone gets seriously hurt on your saw when a safer alternative was available.....
