Got a bit more done on this one. I sanded the sides all smooth and then I cut the side port. The tape on the guitar marks the ends of the support veneer that I glued on the inside of the box.
Here is the side wet with DNA:

The port location:

The port! I am going to bind it with whatever I decide to use for the body binding. It is just under 2 inches in diameter now.
Image

I sent the pic below to the future owner saying, "I cut out your side port tonight. Doesn't it look great?" I'll send the real pic after he replies with something polite!

Thanks for looking!

Tony

Is this one going to get you patented BRW kerfs?

I decided to use ebony binding on this guitar because Andy Birko donated the fret board and bridge for this guitar. He made me a beautiful faux bound ebony board and matching ebony bridge, and since I have always matched the fret board binding to the body binding, I figured I had to use ebony for the box. Here are pictures of things you have all seen hundreds of times:

Thats all for now.

Thanks Alex.
I glued in the tail wedge...which is very un-wedge-like in its straightness:

Then glued on some binding. Sorry for the bad pic. I took it with my phone and on the little screen, it looked good.

Thanks for looking.

I could have simply referred to it as the end graft, but calling it a wedge seemed more entertaining to me. I am an odd guy, but you knew that already.

I guess there is a Crate & Barrel bag in one shot. I work in the house sometimes. I guess the wife was out shopping!

I can see some of those BWR kerfs next to the tail block, nice touch! Looking really nice, how did the owner like the pic of the sound port?

I stuffed a few in there!

He was very polite and said it wasnt really his style. Then I sent the real pic. He was much happier and came clean saying he did not like the original pic I sent!

I finished up the binding and scraped it flush. At this point, the whole box is sanded to 120. On to fitting the neck!

Thanks for looking.

Very nice Tony. The customer is really a lucky guy. I have read the whole thread and think my next build (if I get through my first successfully) is going to be Ziricote. The stuff really looks amazing and you've done it justice in this build.

It looks incredible, Tony! Did you get your hands and face all black sanding the Zircote? Of course, with a mustache like yours, how would we know????
