hi all
what kid of tuners would you recommend putting on a Hernandez classical model.
I’m after a well made, positive and accurate quality but not the “high end” Rogers etc. prices.

Cheapest/best I think are Schallers.

As well as the regular Gotoh line which might be appropriate for this guitar.

A step up would be the Gotoh premium line, up to around $175.

Next are Sloane machines from Stew Mac.

And of course above the $300.00 mark are Alessi, Reischl, Graf Rogers etc etc.

I really like the Gotoh for mid range price range. Stew Mac have them listed as product 5835 for $69.94. This is the best tuner I've used in this price range. There are others that I have not used, so take that with a grain of salt.

I've also used the Gotoh Premium, but for the extra $100, I can't tell if they are all THAT much better. Once you get into the $160-200 range, the Sloan's are very nice. It's all up hill from there, and its a big jump in price to the Rogers, Graf, Allessi, Waverly, etc.

I'm looking forward to trying the Rubner tuners. They have quite a range but not a very good distribution in N. America. There is an Australian and a UK dealer. If you can work in German then you can order direct.

Schaller has tuners about equivalent in price to the Gotoh, but I like the Gotoh a little more.

These guys in Australia have them.....Indeed they are the best looking inexpensive tuners.
This is Sean Hancock's family outfit. I met him at last years Romanillos course....I've ordered stuff from them.......

Geordie, I like the high end Fustero tuners, I used them on my last classical they can be bought from Madinter. But, I am using a set of Rubner on the one I'm working on right now, they are a superb tuner for the money, made by a small family firm in Germany. They can be bought from David Dyke.

I don't believe in anything, I simply make use of a set of reasonable working hypotheses.

All of the primary sources have been mentioned except for Gilbert tuners. They are smooth, very precise and probably the best insofar as function that I have used to date. They aren't the prettiest but if you read the specs and pay attention the materials I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Greg Matonis who makes them is a machinist by trade and from the quality of the tuners he produces, he is assuredly a very fine one. The price range is right in line with the Irving Sloane models from Stew-Mac. With the current state of the US dollar against the Pound and Euro these just may be quite a bargain.

Geordie, since you are in Scotland, you might do better to go direct to Rubner. You can also get them through Martin at http://www.Best-EuroSpruce.com. Check under the Shop tab on his home page, and scroll down to Rubner Tuners. I used them on my last, and like them very much.

They have a roller that does NOT turn in the outside of the tuner slot!
Adjustable tension ,and replacable buttons!!
