I have some wenge bindings for my current build, and have kept putting off bending them I scared and don't wanna break them, currently I use a hot tube 2" diameter with a paint stripper gun. When I bent my mahogany sides I backed the mahogany with some 0.030"/0.8mm modellers ply and I've cut a strip to do the same my questions are really how hot? And how long to soak? And any tips like using a cloth between the pipe and the bindings.

Abut 300º F. will work nicely. Don't soak, just spritz and keep spritzing as they get dry.

Wenge bends OK, but it tends to split along any runout lines. And you won't get through the job without it spitting a splinter into your fingers. It does that just for spite.

Had a lucky day, I've been putting off bending my wenge bindings, but it went really easily I actually enjoyed it and thought why am I building a fox bender, Howard here said don't soak and my tutor said soak for 1hr so I tried it without soaking and it bent fine, then after soaking it moved quicker is all I'll say, and I just wish I could remember who recommended adding fabric softener to the water as it made a real difference lot easier after that, thought the wood feels a little waxy now so may wipe with acetone or lighter fluid, and no splinters to boot big time beginers luck.
