I'm making a walnut classical neck. The grain direction changes over the length of the board I am using. I was able to get a quarter sawn neck and head, and one quartersawn section for the heel stack, that could be at the bottom, and include the foot. What I am left with for the center of the stack is flat sawn. It is thick enough that I could rip it and laminate it to make it quartersawn. Is this worth the trouble? Does the direction of the grain in the heel stack matter, and does it matter if it is all the same direction through the depth of the stack? Does anyone know what effect this will have on carving the heel. I have enough of the flatsawn material to make the whole stack flat sawn if that would make sense. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It needs to be all the same direction.
Otherwise 1) the expansion will not be the same 2) visually it would show a big difference in grain pattern.

Agreed .. keep it all the same orientation.
