I have a customer who has asked if I would do a Tiger Myrtle fretboard and bridge to match the back and sides of his new guitar. I have not worked with Tiger Myrtle before so I am unsure of the density and how long it will last as a FB. I have some concerns that it may not be hard enough. I generally use Ebony for my FBs, but have used some Ziricote and Snakewood. I will not use Indian RW. I will likely be getting my hands on some TM before to long but in the mean time any opinions on using it as a FB would be appreciated.

thanks

Josh

Josh buddy IMHO Tiger Myrtle is too soft for a fret board. I have built with it and it is a dream to bend, plane, and sand and works a lot like Mahogany only is easier to bend. But for a fret board I suspect that it would wear very fast.

I agree with Hesh! It's on the soft side for fretboards.I would be concerned more about it not holding a fret tang than wear. But it wouldn't wear as good a the harder dense woods as well.

Hi Josh

Get in touch with Larry Davis.

He's been testing his acrylizing process on Tiger Myrtle and I believe that it may be suitable after that treatment.

Un-processed TM would certainly be too soft for a fingerboard.

I have used it for a bridge but it is very light. From memory it came in at about 18 grams.

Bob
