A heads up for seekers of fresh glue-

Titebond has changed their date codes. No magic decoder ring required to decipher the new one.

Example:
A908050048

A = Made in the U.S.
9 = 2009
0805 = August 5th
0048 = Lot number

From speaking with other luthiers, the general consensus is if it's over 6 months old, use it for non-structural applications, jigs, macaroni art, etc.

Granted, I like to use HHG for everything I can... :D beehive

Thanks Anthony. I noticed the change but the local hardware store didn't know the code and I hadn't had a chance to look into it further.

Thanks for the info' Anthony. I just checked a squeeze bottle from the refrigerator and it has no such format code on it that I can see. The only thing I can find is the following printed on the bottle with a dot matrix printer: 9A529H.29. Is this the old format?

thanks,
Max

Yep Max, that's the old format.

That glue was manufactured in January of 2009.

The old system was as follows:

First character = last digit of year
Second character = month - A=January, B=February, C=March etc... ( "I" was skipped, so "J" was September and so on)

Hope that helps.

Anthony

I still think 9/25/2009 would be simpler. But i guess this is better then before....Mike
