i just wanted to get the opinions or people on here as to what some good tuner are. i have had really great luck with Grover tuners in the past, and have also used some cheapo knock tuners which have performed as you expect from cheap tuners. i was just wondering if with grover you are just paying for the name or if some of the other brands are just as good, let me know what you think!

I think that the Grover Sta-Tite 18:1 tuners are the best deal out there right now. They are the same tuner that Santa Cruz installs on its standard line--theirs are just stamped 'Santa Cruz' on the back. I have bought some Gotoh and Waverly open back tuners that were maybe a bit more solid, but not twice or THREE times as good as the prices would indicate.

I just got a set of the Wilkinson copies of the old-style kludsen tuners for a tele.

They appear to be reasonably solid, not totally loose and obviously junky like some cheap tuners. finish quality is no where as nice as the grovers -which is fine for this style. I have heard that they perform well.

it will be a while before I mount them and see how they perform.

for my acoustics, I'll continue with Grover Stay-tites.
