Hi All

I have a FOX side bender partially completed on the bench and I have prepared a solid bending from from 6 pieces of 1" birch ply. I used an OM style template (no cutaway) to draw the shape of the form.

I am also building a mold for the same guitar from 4 peices of stacked 24" * 10" * 22 mm MDF.

The question is, do I make the mold with a slightly bigger circumference or is the size of sides plus any allowance for a bending blanket and slats insignificant.

Hope this makes sense ?

John

Hi

I made my forming template first, so I guess it would work in reverse and make my mold slightly bigger. I suppose the end result is the overall size of the guitar is marginally bigger then my template.

I am sure that I also read on your instructions somewhere that the differenc eis only important on a cutaway ?

With wood being wood and each piece will bend a touch differently you want the bend pattern compensated a bit from the mold. Todd's advice is sound.

Todd

I see that you also make your bending form width just shy of the width of your bender, my bender width is currently 6" + 1/16 either side. My form is a good 1/2 thinner. Is worth making the width to match the bender?

Hi

Yes, for the little extra effort I will probably build it out to somewhere near the thickness of the bender.

Thanks

John
