I just received some of Grumpy's Tortoloid pickguard material this morning, real nice stuff. He now has some different patterns lighter than what Stew Mac stocks. I am not a fan of the pickguard look on guitars and have mostly used clear ones but the 12 fret 000 needs the retro look of the old Martins. For us Canadian builders it is nice to be able to avoid the border on products.

Glad he's got some with a toned-down pattern. It's nice stuff but when I put it on an OM the pattern was a bit much for me so I took it off and put on a clear one. Of course its just a personal preference thing, some people thought it looked great.

Did he mention to put it in some water at 140 degrees or so to soften it if cutting guards from sheets to prevent cracking? Or that might be the the other tor-tise material. His might not need that, I think he said that was one reason he started making his because Tor-tise might have changed their formula and it's now a little brittle. But it still won't hurt I guess if you are worried about it. Nothing worst then to have the sheet chip or crack as it's nice stuff and it's pricey but worth it to me.

When I used it you definitely wanted to warm it before cutting or it would crack.
