I'm in the spray booth this weekend through the week. I've got seal coats of shellac on this, next will be pore filling with CA, another seal coat then onto the lacquer.









And the one on the left is curing. Only another week and I can start to level and buff.

Finishing the bracing on the coco wedge top and getting ready to do the rosette for the OM cutaway I did a mock up of it this morning on a free top that came as shipping packing. It is something different for me as my rosettes are usually herringbone or D 45 style. I am trying to decide if I will use it on the top.

Here are a couple pictures of the mock up, it looks rough as it is not glued or leveled as it will be moved to a real top, what do you all think?

Good Afternoon:
I havn't posted any pictures lately so here goes;

This instrument is for a guy in a nearby town who happens to be a website designer. The deal we worked out was the swap of an instrument for a pro website. It was interesting how the respective values were so similar, should be a win-win. We'll see.........

The details:
Nice Koa back and side set
Adi
Probably rosewood trim pieces
Spalted maple rosette
Gold Gotohs
The rest is yet to be decided.

The Adi was some of John Arnolds 20 year old stock (should be spectacular). The rosewood patch on the side is for the soundhole backing/pretty stuff. The bracing is blatently stolen from Brocks pictures, this is new to me, should be fun to try out!




There is a lot of stuff goin' on in this box, hopefully it will stimulate some interesting conversations.

Fred: I like your rosette. I do one that is almost exactly the same but it is single and a bit wider.Have been doing it for years and is sort of a signature rosette thing for me. I make the ring up before installation and do not construct the individual lines in the groove. I find it easier to do that way . Take care .

Sound Clips of most of my guitars

I'm spraying my first sunburst on one of the two archtop basses I'm doing right now. I sprayed the first two color coats (amber and red/brown) using water based aniline. I'll give it a coat of clear lacquer tomorrow, remask and then spray a dark brown shader lacquer. I'm cautiously optimistic right now. Wish me luck.

Thank you Charlie and yes it is. Got it from Brent at Alaska Specialty Woods. Got him on the phone before ordering and described what I was looking for as at the time he didn't have any similar tops pictured on his website. (He has some listed as of last week last time I checked). Bought two sight unseen and was very pleased with the look and how stiff they are. I'm saving the other one to use with a set of BRW for a build for myself once I get my first 4-5 out of the way and get my skills up to a credible level.



Got the rosette cut out and installed yesterday. Will probably replace the outer purfling line around the rosette. There is a small area in the south right area that I'm not happy with.

I closed up this box yesterday. It's an L-00 for my niece and I hope I can get it done by Christmas. I should be able to get the bindings on it by the end of the week. It's "opportunity grade" EIR from Allied and a AA bearclaw Adirondack top. I don't know what the rosette is. It was an orphaned side I got from RC Tonewoods in the last swap meet.
