Perfect for my little space. Just wondering if the following 2 drill presses are the same with different name slapped on them or completely different. I plan on going with the Grizzly. Unless there's a hidden gem out there someone could recommend. Thanks

Before you purchase EITHER one . Make sure and ask if you can get replacement parts if / when somthing breaks . Harbor freight is notorious for selling stuff you CANNOT get parts for .

They will work for most about anything we do. The $30 extra for the Griz would be a better deal. You can get parts for them. Mine is old and just bought some parts for it. I have used it about every way it can be used except as a milling maching for bridge slots and such. Even made a table and fence for Wagner Saf-T-Plane.

Hey get what you can afford and what space you have. You can make it work. I have to much for my space now. So looking at smaller tools. My old "small shop" in OK sure looks good now.

I doubt that they are the same unit. The Griz weighs 20% more than the Harbor Freight. Packaging would not explain this weight difference. Griz has a MUCH better reputation than Harbor. Likely no tax on the Griz either whereas there is likely tax on the Harbor since they operate in more states. Some folks will not buy anything with a motor on it from Harbor, but I have bought a $50 1" belt/disk sander from them.

Out of stock? Surely you jest! (seems Grizz is always out of stock these days... if you call and whine, they may ship you one right away... greasy wheel and all of that)

I have couple of machines from Harbor Freight and have had no problems.., that said it depends what the tool is used for divided by the price paid...you get what you pay for, but I do have a problem with everthing built in China. A lot of this stuff comes from the same factories with a few cosmetic changes and price points all over the board for the same stuff. Even the " good stuff" I have , Jet , professional craftsman...built in china, or Taiwan, however parts availability is a big issue with harbor freight but the stuff can be inexpensive enough that if it wears out you can just toss it....

Have a Grizzly at the cabinet shop, has been OK. Was not the tightest machine right out of the crate though, spindle has a good bit of play despite adjustments. If the slop is taken out, the spindle will not move. Bought a Craftsman for the Guitar shop here, despite having fewer speeds I believe it is a much better machine. Very tight, smooth and accurate.

The only thing I would caution is to make sure the distance from the vertical tube to the drill chuck is great enough to drill for the center pin of your soundhole/rosette.
