I thought I'd share this with the community, I just stumbled onto it while milling about smartly on the Internet reading about wood.

For those of you who are as wood obsessed as I am, you can download, in Adobe Reader/FoxIt .pdf format, "Silvics of North America" Volumes 1 and 2 for free from Uncle Sam at this link:

Volume 1 covers Conifers, and is no longer available except at the link, either online or in .pdf format. Volume 2 covers hardwoods and if you order it, it will cost you $165.50 plus shipping and handling.

The volumes cover the trees of North America, give detailed range maps, information on growth, some mention of uses, all sorts of information. With my mind always wondering if we've even realized some of the potentially great tonewoods that may be out there, this gives me a lot of ammunition for daydreaming about wood.

Total size to download both volumes is around 14MB.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I hope someone finds these two volumes useful or at least interesting.
