I'm sure I'm not the first, but on my last guitar I got the clever idea to use my ShopFox pin router to cut the binding channel. On this particular try, I used an undersized pin and a straight bit, though in the future I'll use bearings instead. It actually worked pretty well! This was on an electric with a flat back, so it was pretty trivial to just pass the body through flat and everything came out perfectly. The arched top didn't matter because I just set the router to a specific height, never indexing off the top at all.

Ok, great. Now here's the question. Has anyone figured out a way to use this pin router to route a channel that's not necessarily planer, like on an acoustic? It looks so much like those StewMac binding machines that I have to think there's a way to do it, but the router and carriage weigh a lot so they need to be suspended somehow. Also, there needs to be a guide of some sort attached to the router to ride on the top.

Anyhow, I'm just curious if anyone's played with something like this and achieved any sort of success.
