I got a guitar in with a bridge lift that had been in a damp basement for years and had a lot of what looked like mold and discoloration inside. A real mess. A nice mid 70's BZ LoPrinzi dred.
I had heard about the rice trick for cleaning the inside of a guitar and a good friend that has 30 years experience with repairs told me it worked well.
I covered the label with low tack drafting tape, put a couple of cups of rice inside, taped the soundhole and bridge pin holes and shook the heck out of it several times a day for a couple of days and then vacuumed out the rice and blew it out.
It was amazing, the inside looked almost brand new. This really works.

For triangular linings only!!! -- I think your success will be limited if you try this approach with reverse style linings 8-)

I sent my hearing aids through the washing machine. Brought them back to life in a cup of rice.

Just be very careful when vacuuming through the sound hole.

For additional clarification, the rice could get lodged in the kerfed sections or reverse kerfed linings - that's why I mentioned "limited success" with reverse style linings.
