I was just curious if anyone on here knew of any companies that sell salvaged/recovered or otherwise "eco-friendly" woods suitable for lutherie? I know of a couple (Dave Maize, Oregon Wild Wood), but I'm sure some of you know of places that I've never heard of before, so any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I think LMII lists some eco friendly woods, that is, from renewable plantations. Allied sometimes lists sinker redwood. I think some of Forgotton Woods is eco friendly.

My good friend Maurice Roy on the Queen Charlotte islands (west coast of Canada) only has salvaged woods - red and yellow cedar, sitka spruce (some of the best bearclaw around) and depending on the currents, even beachcomb redwood. You can find his contact info on the Montreal Guitar show website.

+1 for Maurice. I got a sitka and a WRC top from his eBay outlet last month. Excellent quality and reasonable shipping.

You can try Tom Thiel at Northwind Tonewood. A lot of his stuff is salvaged.

I always wanted to build with native chestnut, perhaps there is sinker chestnut available on the market?

Maurice Roy is one that resaw only trees that are felt down or recovered from rivers.
He's on british columbia little island. He don't have a website yet but you can find him and his wood on Facebook. Great stuff!
