I believe it is critical to control overhead costs if I want to continue building guitars and make a profit. So I live in a cave, but enough about me.

I use the strong brown tape for binding & purfling, but have always wanted to save the strips to use a second time, but could never figure out how. I would make a "roll" of the pieces, but it was impossible to reuse the roll.
Yesterday & today I am binding and purfling 6 instruments, and I figured out how to reuse the strips! As I am un-taping a guitar, I put the strips on a long board, and set it aside to use again.
I doubt this would work if multiples were not being done in a fairly short period of time.

Not bad David. If you were really tight you'd be putting the glue squeeze out back in the bottle.

You can virtually create a new set of strings from old ones by sanding eg. a 'B' string until it becomes an 'E' string.
If we all contribute a few ideas such as these I'm pretty sure we can make a smaller loss!

Another benefit of hide glue!

That'd be a fun experiment actually. Keep putting the squeezeout in an empty container until you get a pound of it. See how long it takes. I bet we'd all be surprised.

As for the rubber band group, some people just like using tape. I know I do over the other method. I for one just feel like I have more control when doing it that way.

anyone trying upholsterers tape 1 in wide ??. A large roll will do 2 gtrs and it is indefinitely recyclable .The blue tape I use from homeless depot is not cheap , and hard to recycle . sometimes if I lay it on the edge of my pecan wkbench , can get to use it 3or 4 times

I reuse masking tape by wrapping it around itself on a glass jar. It is good for low tack applications the second time around.
