Anyone built these and could compare tonal characteristics?

Heard a Pernambuco guitar once but in a crowded, noisy room, couldn't tell what the bass response was.

Would be paired with Cedar on a small jumbo.

Thanks for any feedback.

They are all good woods and can make a fine instrument. That doesn't mean that they -will- make a fine instrument. If you can stand the dust, cocobolo would be a good choice. It is generally less expensive and more available, so a high quality set can be sourced without breaking the bank.

Mahogany. That's what you really want.

thanks for the replies.

not mahogany, definitely

Would like to know where the bass response characteristics of Pernambuco fall relative to Braz or Coco.

Anyone?

never heard/tryed pernambuco, but unless you have some at hand your question should be mostly academical, as the stuff is very rare and prohibitively expensive. If you still want an opinion, IIRC Howard Klepper and Bruce Sexauer have some pernambuco and very much sing its preises. Maybe you could contact them.

cheers,
miguel.

I think Arnt Rian has built with all 3.

They are all good woods. Coco is a favorite of mine. Gives good base response but the mids and highs are still there. I usually pair it with spruce, forward shifting the braces some to give the bass a nice platform.

I sweat to much bending BRW, or at least I would if I was to use it.....
